Application
Air barriers, by their nature, must be continuous, with flexible and airtight connections to adjacent systems. The most effective way to maintain a continuous air barrier from a practical perspective is to use one air barrier material for all wall assemblies.
ENERSHIELD™ products have met the requirements of ICC-ES AC 212 for use under all cladding materials*, and can be applied to most substrates. This minimizes the need to transition from one air barrier material to another, saving time and eliminating a potential source of air leakage. ENERSHIELD™ products are recognized for use with many popular water-drainage EIFS claddings, creating further application flexibility.
The high-solids content and low wet-film thickness requirement of ENERSHIELD™ products work together to provide fast drying times, allowing contractors to quickly complete their work, and minimizing potential damage to the membrane before it has fully cured.
Low wet-film thickness has further benefits. In many cases, applicators can apply ENERSHIELD™ in one pass, allowing “once around the building and done” application. Challenges related to even application thickness and sagging are greatly reduced, whether ENERSHIELD™ is applied by spray, brush or roller.
Low wet-film thickness allows the viscosity of ENERSHIELD™ to be optimized for workability. Spray application can be done using at pressures lower than 100 psi, reducing equipment cost and bulkiness. Roller application is fast and easy.
At joints, penetrations and rough openings where high strength is needed, saturating a special SHEATHING FABRIC reinforcement provides self-gauging thickness and reliably enhanced mechanical properties.
ENERSHIELD™ products do not require a primer for application to sheathing or masonry, further simplifying application.
Treating rough window openings with ENERSHIELD
™ reinforced with SHEATHING FABRIC provides a number of unique advantages. Since ENERSHIELD
™ is applied in liquid form, it easily conforms to rough openings, producing an airtight and watertight seal. ENERSHIELD
™ rough window opening treatments seamlessly bond to the ENERSHIELD
™ used to protect the overall wall assembly, creating an integrated air/water-resistive barrier.
